SUMMARY:Town Hall on Underage Drinking
DESCRIPTION:Just in time for prom season\, parents and their teens are invited to a Town Hall on Underage Drinking on March 25th. This event\, presented by the Warren Coalition and hosted at Samuels Public Library in White Meeting Room B\, will begin at 6:30 pm. During the short 45-minute session\, Warren Coalition’s Executive Director Christa Shifflett will explain how alcohol impacts the brain and why it can be particularly dangerous for our youth\, whose brains are still developing.  The attendees will watch a video of young people’s brain scans affected by alcohol. The presentation will be followed by a group discussion\, where parents and teenagers can share their insights and ideas to help prevent underage drinking. \n\n\n\nWhile anyone can attend this free town hall\, attendees who pre-register will enjoy grilled hamburgers and hot dogs at 7:15 pm. Register at https://bit.ly/thoud25. All those who attend will have the opportunity to win prizes. \n\n\n\nShifflett is an experienced and engaging speaker who has presented at multiple international conferences on topics ranging from drug and alcohol misuse prevention to building community resilience. She is a Certified Trauma Professional\, a Certified Trauma Informed and Trauma Supportive trainer and ACEs Interface Trainer for Virginia. She graduated from the College of William and Mary with a bachelor’s degree in government and economics. She earned a master’s degree in education from James Madison University. \n\n\n\nQuestions may be sent to celeste@warrencoalition.org. \n\n\n\nWarren Coalition\, celebrating 30 years of service to Warren County\, is a nonprofit agency established in 1994 to help fill the gaps in health care and substance abuse awareness to the community. The Coalition began under the guidance of Warren Memorial Hospital as an outreach project\, but it has since grown and was incorporated in 2001.  The office is currently located in the Warren County Community Center.  Their mission is to make Warren County a safe\, healthy\, and drug free community through many programs and in collaboration with 15+ member agencies. \n\n\n\n###
