Students Avoiding Violence and Everyday Drugs (SAVED) was added to the Coalition’s offerings in 2024. It assists youth in grades 6th-12th grades who are caught with illicit substances (excluding nicotine) and/or alcohol in school or the community, or who have been involved in violence. Each student goes through a series of assessments, including a substance misuse assessment with parental permission. If a child assesses for a substance misuse disorder, the Project Coordinator will work with the family to find appropriate treatment.
Based on the completed assessments, the coordinator creates an individualized program for the student using CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) anger management skills and Positive Action, an evidenced-based program that has great results in helping to prevent substance misuse and decreasing violent responses among youth. The program will take place during the school day and will have 14 sessions.

This program is funded by a grant awarded by the Department of Criminal Justice Services.
